How to have preferred programs running when computer starts

I am quite sure you have at least 2-3 programs which you want to start when you turn on your computer. I will show you how in a few an old trick I used for many years, something valuable for me, used to make programs starts when the PC starts.
On your C:/ partition exists a folder from which the system initiate programs automatically at start up. This folder is named Startup, obviously, isn’t? What you have to do is to put in that folder the shortcuts from the programs you want to start when windows boot.
The way to find out Startup folder on my computer is:
C:\Documents and Settings\Bill\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\
Once you found it, create the shortcuts for the programs you want to run when you open the computer. To create a shortcut, right click into that Startup window / New / shortcut and locate the .exe file you want to create the shortcut. Add as many shortcuts you want.
To remove a program from running at the computer startup follow the same path and delete the shortcuts you don’t want or press Windows button + R, write msconfig, go to startup tab and deselect the programs you don’t want to run when computer starts.

Great tool: Dupe Trasher

DupeTrasher is a tool for removing the duplicates files from your HDD. It’s not removing only the files but the duplicate directories and archives too.Let’s just assume that you have hundreds or even thousands of pictures on you computer. A part of this pictures you’re sending to your friends over the internet and you duplicate and resize this pictures in order to sent them. After a while your computer will be full of duplicate pictures.Or, maybe you are a big music listener. You will have tons of mp3s, a part of them in two or more places on your computer, as duplicates. To delete manual all this junk is a big pain. The only solution is to use a tool and DupeTrasher is it’s doing a great job cleaning your HDD for duplicates.DupeTrasher is searching on your HDD for duplicates. Once the search process is done you can let DupeTrasher to remove automatically the duplicated files/directories/archives or you can select them manually.I had chosen the automatic method and the results were impressive – almost 9 GB of duplicates were founded and removed from my HDD, most of them pictures but a few movies and dozens of mp3s too. Of course you can use a free tool to do this but I have found very hard or, to be sincerely, impossible, to find a good free software to remove safely the duplicate files, and anyway what I found didn’t removed the directories which contained that files too.

Ipod/ iphone doesn't turn on

If your ipod touch / iphone shuts off and it doesn’t want to turn on, no matter what are you trying to do, is because it might be stuck in the DFU mode. This is happened regularly when the jailbreak process didn’t work well.
Fortunately there is a solution, even a easy one:
1. turn on your computer and connect your iPod Touch / iPhone to it.
2. hold down both, the power and the home buttons (the iPod Touch / iPhone will power off after 10 seconds)
3. after theiPod Touch / iPhone powers off, release the power button (but keep holding down the home button)
4. in no more than a couple of seconds, you should hear that Windows sounds that means the iPod is being detected by your computer again.
5. release now the home button, and your iPod will be back alive, in DFU mode.
6. open iTunes (if is not already open) and restore your iPod Touch / iPhone firmware.
Your iPod Touch / iPhone will not be jailbroken now, but at least will be functional.

How to burn files larger than 2GB using Nero

To burn a data DVD with a file that is 2 GB in size or larger you must use the DVD (UDF) format and not the default DVD (ISO) which is regularly used for creating a data DVD in Nero Burning ROM.
You will receive a message telling you that you have to use a different specification setting : “The file “” is larger than 2GB and therefore cannot be store in an ISO file system. Please use the UDF file system to write such large files. This can be done by selecting another compilation type.”. And this is because the ISO 9660 specification doesn’t allow to write files that are larger than 2 GB.To burn more than 2 GB at once you have to use “DVD-ROM (UDF)”. The following steps will help you to do this:
1. click and lunch Nero StartSmart (Nero icon)
2. on the left side of the window you will click on Nero Burning ROM
3. again look at the left of the new window, scroll down and click on DVD-ROM (UDF) – in the image, at the bottom.
4. click on NEW
From here you’ll have to follow the regularly steps in burning you DVD.
As you can see, that annoying message disappear and you can drag & drop files into burning section, larger than 2GB.

Web Link color

Is the hypertext links color, meant to be blue? Well, yes. Google made an experiment with two type of links color, blue and green, or more precisely using colors between blue and green and guess what? It seams that blue links are more clickable, people are more often click on blue links than green ones (hmm, still wondering why techcrunch is using green links).
But why blue? Why not red links, orange or black? This is a hell of question, since nobody can stand with a strong answer. But let’s list together a few theories about blue “Google” link color, why is this that impressive, what are the possible motivations for people to click on blue links:
1. We’ve got used with blue links from the beginning of the internet, the blue links being used as a universal link color. Nowadays is still the default link color for all the existent web browsers.
2. Blue stands out. I’m not so sure about that. I’m thinking that red is a more powerful color that blue, more dynamic and it should (I think it actually do) do a great job in sales. But let’s just admit that between blue and green, blue stands out.
3. moreover, some designers are even thinking that hypertext links should be either blue or purple (which is actually the color of craigslist links!). Both Gerry McGovern and Jakob Nielsen have a strong belief that should be no links other than blue and purple (the last one for visited links) if somebody really wants users clicking on that links. They think that changing the links color from “default” is confusing the users.

How to get past the 72 mins of video on megavideo

This is the message you get after watching 72 minutes of a movie on MegaVideo. And obvious is very very annoying. But still there is a reasonable method of watching movies for unlimited time. The method consist in using a piece of software which is hiding/changing your real IP, named HotSpot Shield. Is free and is doing pretty well the job. All you have to do is to alternate turning ON and OFF the HotSpot Shield. In this way you will watch 72 minutes of a movie from within an IP address and after that from another IP you can continue with the rest of the movie. I could watch movies for a couple of hours yesterday using this method :)
Just to make sure the method will work you can disable the cookies for TVShack only. I’m not 100% sure that is really helping but I did disable that cookies and everything is fine.

Send email using iPod Touch Notes app

Notes is a simple text editor for iPod Touch / iPhone which is coming installed by default when you buy one of these Apple products. Today I have discovered a new and interesting feature this Notes application is providing – sending emails even if in out of network mode, with no internet. Notes iPod application can be used to send emails.
What is Notes actually doing is sending emails when the iPod got network connection, a kind of “send it later” email functionality, which is not really bad if you have to compose a few email when let’s say you aren’t home, with no internet connectivity. In other words you can use the boring time spent on the bus writing emails which will be delivered to their destination when you arrive home or at a whatever place with internet connection.
To use this amazing email functionality all you have to do is to open Notes from your iPod Touch, tap “+” sign (top-right corner),write your email and then tap the Email sign (bottom-left, that “letter” sign). The email will be sent as soon as you’ll get network connectivity on your iPod Touch.

sup, this will teach you about how to temporarily fix bad sectors on your harddrive so that you can get your data off and on to a new one. First if you can, open up a command prompt by pressing the windows key on your keyboard, going to run and typing in "cmd". Once you have the cmd open type "chkdsk c: /r" without the parentheses and "c" being the letter of the drive that your fixing. Once you do that it will ask you if you want to run a chkdsk the next time you start your computer, press y and enter then restart your computer. When you restart, the check will automatically run and you might want to leave and do some other stuff for a few hours because it takes a long time to finish. If you can't login to your computer to get to the command prompt, you can get to it by resetting the computer and pressing the F8 key for more boot options, or you can use the windows recovery cd.

sup, this is a blog just for me to either rant about tech problems i'm having or to give some useful information about how to do different things with random pieces of technology
